Nothing's wrong with them. They're just really not set in the order, and some might even assume you're familiar with older tomes they're based on.
[ Some of the academic structures still makes him want to hurl himself through the window, screaming. ]
Also if you're interested in specific types of enchantments, I might point you the right way... but I understand if you want a challenge of cracking the code on your own.
[ She blinks at the books as she pieces together his explanation. ]
So in other words, definitely not for a novice like me...
[ She gives a sheepish laugh before thunking her forehead against his chest. ]
It's certainly proving to be a challenge. I think half the problem is... I don't know enough about what can be enchanted and how. Some people seem to take to this so simply, but I struggle even wrapping my head around coming up with ideas to even try. It feels like thet went 'here, the sky is the limit' and yet I'm looking up there and getting completely lost in clouds!
[ Oh no, that turned out to be discouraging. Well, he was never really meant to be a teacher, but perhaps he can... channel Scathach a bit. ]
"Some people" have different backgrounds, and they might have a headstart in some of the areas, this true. But that doesn't limit or diminish your ability, nor your cleverness.
[ He takes a book, than another from the shelf. One dealing with the enchanting thing with written and drawing forms, focusing on how enchantment can be put anywhere your heart desires, and how to be creative with it (rather then on hard, studious rules regarding how long or narrow the line is), another one introduces a lot of complex concepts but is written for someone who goes into Enchantment from another School ]
I've seen your ideas. Novice or not, you're not only going in the right direction but also putting your own, personal spin on it. Do not doubt yourself just because you have only begun the journey
[ She looks a little sheepish at his gentle chide, even as she sinks back down in her chair and watches him go through the books to select a few. ]
I'm trying not to. I just feel... very far behind so many others here. Like I have to keep running to merely keep pace. But it reassures me to know that you think I'm at least running in the right direction. I'll try not to be so impatient with my progress.
It means you're ambitious and curious, that is a good thing.
[ It is said with slightly amused tone but also adoration. Preserving against all odds is an admirable quality ]
But progress isn't a consistent straight line. Sometimes we feel like we're stuck, trying different approaches and nothing seemingly works— but that can be the time when we make the biggest of progress and learn the most.
[ Even though these are not easy lessons. He clears his throat, giving lectures is not his specialty after all. Even though it is part of being a guide—
A simple reminder of how much in life is entirely unpredictable, you might now where the road leads to but not what awaits you along the given path. [ The theatrical tones he adapts makes it impossible to take seriously as he has her few more books ]
Or I just wanted to see what kind of face you will make.
[ His explanation just has her laughing as she starts making a stack of the books he's handing her. And he'll no doubt feel the rush of amused affection along the link they share. ]
Well, now you know what I look like when you're being impossible. [ She teases him in return before her expression softens again. ] But I do appreciate the reminder that it doesn't need to be so serious. I confess, sometimes I get too caught up in my goals.
[ Yona just makes a face at that, because that's the second time in a span of a few days someone has brought that up to her. ]
What is it and this place's fascination with running? Is this a far more common habit in other lands? Why do people keep talking as if they do this regularly? Or even for fun?
That's probably part of the fun! [ No, no, it's not. ] But you know, Haven is quite big so I completing a loop around it is more likely to just tire you out
I think so. [ He's not on the running crowd, but then it could also be said he cheats with runes so... ] You set a distance and try to run through it every day. When it becomes easy and effortless, it means it's time to make it longer. That's how you build up stamina.
[ Caster takes a step back, his mouth twists as if he's trying not to laugh. Then he takes a look around the library, which is quite large after all, and back to Yona.
He slowly nods all solemn though his eyes smile. ]
Keeping body healthy is always good, especially for those who spend lot of time hunched over book—ack [ There goes the joke he was going to make, as an older witch smacks him with a book on the back of his head. She then proceeds to hand him said book, and another one, identical to Yona ]
And keeping silence in the library is also an important step in staying healthy. Goodness, children. Just enchant your spot with a silence spell.
[ And thus she leaves— the book title she left them? "Introduction to Glamour: where illusions meets enchanting, a helpful guide" ]
[ She could have warned him. She probably should have. But she knew that expression on his face and could feel the mischief through their bond. So he probably deserved that thwump from the older Witch.
Yona just smiles at her brightly, completely innocent, as she accepts the offered book. ]
Our apologies, we'll be more quiet. [ Then, leaning sideways to whisper to Caster- ] Do you know a silence spell?
[ He grumbles a little and rummages in a sack attached to his belt. From it, he pulls three runestones, made of colourful, semi-precious rocks. Voice down to a whisper. ]
I use these for making a silent area. [ So more like silence enchantment ] I'm just stingy with them.
[ Oooor, he simply forgot about manners in library. ]
[ Caster looks around, catching at least one thunderous glance at them. He puts his hand on Yona's shoulder directing them— into corridor full of shelves with books, and further away from all those tables and couches for people reading them.
At least he keeps his voice low. ]
Precious stones and crystal work best. I figured how to make them with cheaper stones but— [ he rolls the runestones on the palm of his hand. ] They turn to dust after using.
[ This being quiet in a library thing is still very new and strange to Yona. How will one learn if they do not question? But she can at least respect the rules for being what they are.
Still, she leans forward to inspect the stones he holds, keeping her voice pitched low along with hers. ]
Perhaps they are not strong enough to hold the magic that is needed? Or maybe the magic doesn't like being closed in this type of material?
Yeah, not every material holds magic well. But fortunately these works in a pinch. [ He debates if he should set a silencing barrier around them, but they probably chatted a lot. And the library does have closing hours, so— he took enough of her time.
So here he is, being considerate. At least he thinks. He gives her a lopsided grin and whispers ]

It's just like with running— if you continue to run for a long time, you have to pace yourself, so you conserve your strength for the harder parts.
